“Interdisciplinary Cancer Service (SIC) at the Riviera Chablais Hospital in Switzerland is a service that join Oncology and Radiotherapy. It‘s a complete paperless service which use the Medical Electronic Record Elekta Mosaiq to share all the patient information. From the beginning, our objectives were to optimize clinical workflow and patient’s safety; it’s a reason why we have chosen the facial recognition technology from XECAN. That technology fulfills our requirements; simple, efficient, reliable and improve patient safety. The system is well accepted by the patient and it allows us to track the patient in the service.
Also, the use of RFID readers in the radiotherapy simulation room and in the treatment room is a simple way of documentation of all the accessories that are used for each patient’s treatment. “The Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Hospital puts patient safety as our highest priority.
Our implementation of the Xecan RFID application has added an additional layer of safety. Active verification of the correct patient to the correct treatment plan helps to eliminate the potential for human error. The visual and audible alerts with any deviance also serves to engage our patients as part of the safety check, improving the patient experience.
Working with the Xecan development team, we were able to advance the clinical segment of the application resulting in increased clinical efficiency and optimization through data reporting. Our work is ongoing in this area and the Xecan team has worked exceptionally hard to customize the data to our ongoing specifications.
We have improved our clinical workflows through the use of the web based electronic whiteboards. Web based access to real time clinical workflow allows our physician team increased flexibility with their schedules as they can remotely identify where their patients are in the encounter process.

"In the radiotherapy department of Vastmanlands Hospital, Vasteras we looked for an automated system for check in of the patient for their daily treatment. We found out that Xecan could have what we looked for. The problem was that we use a drop-in system and the Xecan system couldn't handle that. Anyhow Xecan's representative came to us in Sweden, and we had a discussion how on to solve the problem. Xecan decided to try to change their system to meet our demands. After some weeks of collaboration, we had the first version of the system up and running. For some months, we improved the system from what we learned day by day, and today we have an excellent system that really helps the logistics of the daily treatments, and save a lot of time. Together with all this we have also gotten a system that ensures that we don't treat the wrong patient and that every patient has the right accessories for their treatment. " Alliance Oncology considers safe patient treatment a foremost priority and in the modern era of radiotherapy treatment we use a variety of systems to deliver accurate, high-quality care. In an effort to move beyond the conventional tools in place at other facilities, we developed a relationship with XECAN to expand the capabilities of our electronic medical record (EMR) system. With the RFID tools that XECAN helped us implement, we have strengthened our system to better ensure that patients are uniquely identified throughout the department, particularly while receiving treatment on the linear accelerator.
