XECAN deployed the latest mask-on facial recognition for Berkshire Health Systems(BHS)

Boston, MA On July 1st, 2022, XECAN developed Mask-On Facial Recognition for Berkshire Medical Center’s Radiation Oncology. The system improves workflow while enhancing patient care efficiency and quality.  The deployment includes the following modules:

  • Reception Area: Smart Patient Check-in KIOSK

  • Waiting Area: Patient Waiting and Calling Whiteboard

  • Exam Rooms: Clinic/Exam Room Workflow

  • Treatment room: Treatment Time Out Process

  • Treatment room: Patient Accessory Verification (PAVS)/RFID Accessory Verification

  • SIM Room: Patient Enrollment and RFID tagging

  • More: Hardware Shipment, Installation, Staff Training, Certification

  • Clinic/Exam Rooms workflow portal: Real-time Patient and Staff workflow and clinic room utilization tracking

  • Berkshire special: Patient chart opening feature

Thanks to partnerships with Elekta and Varian, XECAN fully integrates with both Aria and MOSAIQ, the two most utilized EMR systems. Powered by the latest neuron network and template matching algorithm, XECAN’s face ID identifies patients consistently and reliably. The software focuses on patients’ uncovered areas, such as the eyes and forehead, meaning the system can identify patients even when they wear masks. Compared to a dome camera patient verification system, the masked patients achieve the same level of accuracy with about one second of a delay.

Facial recognition technology provides a first-class experience to both patients and staff. Most importantly, XECAN’s software optimizes safety by ensuring that every patient receives their documented treatment in their delegated location. XECAN is among the first software companies internationally to achieve this upgrade. The team at XECAN is proud to provide Berkshire Medical Center—and radiation centers worldwide—with their sleek, touchless experience.

“XECAN is user-friendly and easy to use. It is highly innovative and provides a unique solution to patient verification and workflow.” comments by Shaun Weigand, Project Manager, Berkshire Health System, United States

“The fact patients can be recognized with masks on makes the solution extremely patient friendly. We are very pleased to observe how effective it is in clinic setups” according to Bin Yang CEO of XECAN
